Born in Stockport, England, Geoff had his first Hammond organ by the time he was 16. He attended Leeds School of Music at age 19, where he studied for three years complementing his musical studies by performing in a group called SHE'S FRENCH. In 1975, he moved to London, where he linked up with Trevor Horn.
In the late 70's, Downes & Horn began working extensively in the studio together, working on commercial jingles and perfecting their own style of electro-pop music. By 1979, as THE BUGGLES, they completed 'Video Killed The Radio Star' and stormed the pop charts. In 1980, Geoff and Trevor joined Alan White, Steve Howe and Chris Squire, in a new version of Yes, releasing DRAMA and touring the world.
Geoff continued to work with Steve Howe and, along with Carl Palmer and John Wetton, they formed ASIA, which acheived quick success with it's debut album. Geoff's involvement with ASIA continues to this day.
